3E Program for Social Justice and Change

Brandi Webb

Brandi Webb served in the NYC Department of Education as a middle and high school teacher covering all subjects. In the private sector, she taught theater classes to aspiring actors. She has been producing and directing film and theater for 17 years. In 2005, Brandi Webb began producing staged plays in the Time Square area of NYC. By 2013, she transitioned into film when she produced and directed her first feature length film titled, Sincere’s Heart. The film touched on issues commonly faced among marginalized communities. Ms. Webb attributes Sincere’s Heart to be her first social justice film.

In 2016, Brandi Webb began her four-year journey producing and directing her first documentary, titled Betrayal of a Nation. She embarked on Betrayal of a Nation to explore government accountability, and to inspire those in marginalized communities to find their own voices to become civically engaged. In February of 2021, Ms. Webb debuted Betrayal of a Nation before a wide audience. The film has won awards from the IndieFEST, and People’s Film festivals. Additionally, the documentary has been selected and screened in film festivals such as the African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF), and the Indie Night on Demand Festival.

Simultaneously, during  her four year journey of producing and directing her film, Webb was led to a life of activism. She participates in organizations that fight for social justice and advocate for freedom. Her roles in these organizations take on many forms such as brainstorming strategies to raise awareness about issues surrounding mass incarceration and police brutality, as well as serving as a freelance filmmaker.

After witnessing the positive impact Betrayal of a Nation had on viewers who watched, Brandi Webb was inspired to turn the documentary into educational material for middle and high school students. Betrayal of a Nation is equipped with lesson plans that accompany each topic discussed in the documentary.

Ms. Webb is an alumna of Clark Atlanta University, A Historical Black University. There, she earned her Bachelor of Art degree in Theater Arts and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors.
